Today’s Image – My Prince Edward Island Book

I’m pleased with the results and will move forward with a final release after a couple edits. The images in this book are exclusively created on Prince Edward Island over the past 3 or 4 years. While I do include the locations of each image, I decided to lay this book out as a portfolio that only focuses on the images. You’ll not find any stories or additional information of each photograph.

An excerpt from the introduction:

Keeping photography fun is an exciting task. Endless resources of information and much to learn without any pressure or expectations. The idea of recording the world onto single frames is an exercise that forces a closer look at light, colors and shapes. Either it be at home on quiet Prince Edward Island or the occasional travel to much larger cities, a camera in hand has become as common as carrying identification. The desire to become better is stronger then ever but at the end of each day; it’s still all for fun.

In 2001 I started sharing photos through my website and by the end of 2005 I was committed to posting one new image every single day. While this was and still is a challenge, the push to continue to produce new material is always rewarding. The images inside this book represent a small selection of the daily photo from the past 3 years.

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed creating it. My approach to photography and the images I create comes from a very strong artistic background. I don’t believe an image should simply be a photocopy of what the camera thought it saw. With the wide variety of tools available today, the images in this book were made to illustrate a mood or feeling of a specific time and day. Instead of just looking at ink on a page, my hope is that each image invites you in, grabs your attention and provides that feeling of actually being there.

Stephen has been a working full-time artist for over 10 years and studying the craft for much longer. Based out of Prince Edward Island Canada, he works as both a designer and editor at silverorange but when not in the office, Stephen has made photography a full time daily creative exercise.

Stephen grew up practicing the fine art of traditional painting but after installing his first pixel editing application in 1997, quickly migrated into the digital medium trading in his inks, paints and brushes. Immersed in the world of image editing, illustrations and page layouts made for a natural progression into the art of making photographs of his own in 2001.
