Eqip Sermia in Greenland is very active glacier shedding large blocks of ice on average every 10 minutes. It’s noticeably disappearing even during our very short stay.
Getting there takes some effort. We had asked the Ilulissat Water Taxi to drop us off about 75km north of Ilulissat so we could explore around this glacier – with the promise to pick us up the following day. It’s off season and the hand full of remote cottages at Eqi were boarded up and closed for the winter. It’s as remote and off the grid as I’ve ever been with no form of communication to the outside world.
It was a night of thunder listening to ice splitting and crashing into the water below.
